Program Description
SeaChange Hawai`i is an Ocean Based Wilderness Therapy Program that is designed to provide physical and emotional challenges, structure, community building, metaphorical learning, and clinical opportunities that enable your child to overcome personal challenges.
SeaChange offers Open Enrollment which allows for immediate entry and Flexible Length of Stay geared to each family’s goals and each teen’s progress.
The program utilizes a variety of approaches to treat your child individually and in the context of a “community.” We consider all of our young people “Cadets.” The basic definition of a Cadet is “an officer in training,” which is an ideal metaphor for an adolescent preparing for adult life. Cadets are crew and, as such, are expected to be a responsible for something larger than themselves. Our core belief is that all young people are resilient and have the innate ability to overcome challenges. Our task is to bring that strength out in each of them. A ship is the perfect platform for therapeutic change. Voyaging and working as crew aboard a ship is a perfect opportunity to allow your child to rise to his/her own full potential.
A ship-based therapeutic program is different from other programs. Listen here to SeaChange’s program director Dr. Matt Claybaugh describe how the power of shipboard life, the ocean and experiential therapy combine to create a healing experience for struggling boys and girls.
