Ocean Based Wilderness Therapy
SeaChange Hawai`i is an Ocean Based Wilderness Therapy Program, similar to adventure based therapy programs, but taking place in the world’s largest natural setting. Our therapeutic model is based on 20 years of safe and successful wilderness programming and sound, proven, experiential theory. Participants (cadets) sail aboard our lead ship SSV Makani Olu – a US Coast Guard licensed sailing school vessel. Typical lengths of stay are between four and six weeks. A Master’s level therapist and trained therapeutic sailing instructors sail with the cadets. The physical and emotional challenges of interisland sailing, coupled with individual and group therapy, are designed to interrupt problematic patterns of behavior and propel young people on their journey of healing, growth and change.
